Terms of Use

Last updated: December 11, 2025

Welcome to Snow Day Predictor. These Terms of Use explain how you may use the site, what you can expect from the predictions, and the responsibilities that remain with each user. My goal is to keep everything clear, helpful, and easy to understand.

By using this website, you agree to these terms. If anything here doesn’t feel right to you, you may choose not to use the site.

1. Purpose of Snow Day Predictor

Snow Day Predictor was created to help Canadian families, students, and teachers plan for winter weather. It provides:

  • An estimated snow-day probability for the next day
  • Weather-based indicators for possible school bus cancellations or closures
  • A simple, easy-to-understand visual gauge

This tool is intended for general information and planning only.

It is not an official forecast from any school board, government agency, or transportation service.

2. Not an Official Decision Tool

While I (Sarah Thompson) do my best to provide helpful and accurate forecasts based on real weather data, the following is important:

  • School boards make their own decisions
  • Bus companies rely on local inspections and real-time road conditions
  • Storms can change quickly
  • No digital tool can guarantee a closure

Snow Day Predictor does not replace:

  • School board announcements
  • Bus cancellation notices
  • Emergency alerts
  • Local weather warnings

Always follow official communications before deciding whether to attend school, travel, or keep children home.

3. Acceptable Use

You are welcome to use Snow Day Predictor for personal, family, educational, or community planning.

You are not allowed to:

  • Use the site in any unlawful or harmful way
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or misuse the forecasting system
  • Interfere with the website’s functionality or security
  • Use results for commercial resale or redistribution without permission

The forecasts are free to use. Please enjoy them responsibly.

4. Postal Code Use and Data Handling

To generate a prediction, the site asks you to enter a Canadian postal code.

Here’s what happens:

  • Your postal code is only used to estimate a region for weather lookup
  • No personal details are collected
  • Nothing is stored in a way that identifies you

For more details about data handling, please read the

➡️ Privacy Policy

5. Accuracy and Limitations

Snow Day Predictor uses trusted, publicly available weather services, but all forecasts have limitations.

Your results may vary due to:

  • Rapidly changing weather
  • Differences between neighbourhoods
  • Local factors such as road conditions or microclimates
  • School board policies that differ by region
  • Unexpected storm developments

The prediction percentage is an estimate, not a guarantee.

Use it as a helpful early indicator, not a final decision-maker.

6. External Links

Some pages (such as the Forecasting Methodology page) link to outside services or weather data providers. These external websites:

  • Are not controlled by Snow Day Predictor
  • May have their own privacy policies and terms
  • Are provided only for informational context

8. Updates to These Terms

As the forecasting model evolves or new features are added, these terms may be updated to stay clear and accurate.

If changes are made, the “Last updated” date at the top will be revised.

Your continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms.

In Summary

  • Snow Day Predictor offers planning guidance, not official closure decisions
  • Predictions are estimates based on weather patterns
  • Postal codes are used only to determine the region, never to identify users
  • Always follow your local school board or transportation authority for final information

Thank you for using the Snow Day Predictor.

I’m grateful to be part of your winter planning, and I hope the tool brings clarity and peace of mind to your evenings.
