Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 11, 2025

At Snow Day Predictor, I want you to feel confident not only in the forecasts you see, but also in how your information is handled. This page explains, in clear and simple terms, what data is collected when you use the tool, how it’s used, and how your privacy is protected.

Snow Day Predictor is designed to be a helpful planning aid for Canadian families, students, and teachers, rather than a data collection service. Your trust matters, and I want you to know exactly how things work behind the scenes.

1. Information We Collect (and What We Don’t)

What you enter:

  • A Canadian postal code or FSA (e.g., M5V, K1A, T2N).

What we do not collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your home address
  • Any personally identifying information

No accounts, no sign-ins, no personal profiles. Just a simple lookup to help you check tomorrow’s weather impact.

2. How Your Postal Code Is Used

Your postal code is used only for one purpose:

To identify the approximate region where forecast data should be gathered.

Here’s what that means:

  • Your code is sent to a location-lookup service (WeatherAPI)
  • That service returns the nearest recognized location or coordinate
  • The tool uses that region to request tomorrow’s weather forecast
  • A snow-day probability is calculated based on forecast conditions

Important:

The postal code is not stored in a personally identifiable manner, linked to users, or retained long-term.

It’s used in real-time to display the prediction you requested.

3. Weather Data SourcesImportant:

To generate a reliable forecast, Snow Day Predictor uses:

  • WeatherAPI — for converting postal codes into approximate regions
  • Open-Meteo — for retrieving the next day’s weather forecast

Both services provide publicly accessible weather data.

No personal data is transmitted to these services beyond the postal code required for regional lookup.

4. Cookies and Tracking

Snow Day Predictor:

  • Does not use tracking cookies
  • Does not use advertising pixels
  • Does not use behavioural profiling
  • Does not follow you around the web

Some basic, non-personal analytics may be used to understand overall site performance (e.g., total visits, pages viewed), but this information is anonymous and cannot identify individual users.

5. How Long Is Data Stored

Because no personal data is collected or tied to individual users:

  • Postal codes are processed temporarily during your visit
  • They are not stored, not linked to you, and not saved for future sessions

Weather forecasts retrieved from Open-Meteo may be cached briefly only to improve website speed, not for tracking usage.

6. How Your Information Is Protected

Even though we do not store personal information, the site is built with:

  • Secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Reputable third-party APIs
  • A privacy-first design that minimizes data collection

The goal is simple: give you a helpful prediction while requesting as little information as possible.

7. Children’s Privacy

Snow Day Predictor is family-friendly and safe for students to use.

Because we do not collect personal details, the tool is accessible without requiring parental consent or account creation.

However, students should always follow school guidance and official announcements before acting on any prediction.

In Short

  • You enter a postal code
  • It’s used only to find your weather region
  • No personal information is collected

  • You get a fast, clear prediction, and that’s it

Thank you for trusting Snow Day Predictor.

My goal is to help your winter mornings feel a little calmer, clearer, and more predictable.
